Celebrating Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month: How Beelieve Pediatric Therapy Supports Children with CP

March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and celebrate the strength and resilience of individuals living with cerebral palsy (CP). At Beelieve Pediatric Therapy, we are dedicated to providing children with CP the support they need to thrive.

What is Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral palsy is a condition caused by brain injury or abnormal brain development while the brain is still forming. This impacts muscle control, coordination, and movement, leading to challenges such as:

  • Muscle weakness or stiffness (spasticity)

  • Poor balance and coordination

  • Limited range of motion

  • Abnormal posture and walking patterns

While CP presents differently in each individual, early intervention and therapy can significantly improve a child’s mobility, independence, and quality of life.

How Can Therapy Help Children with Cerebral Palsy?

At Beelieve Pediatric Therapy, we take a holistic, team-based approach to care. Our therapy services, Physical, Occupational, and Speech & Feeding Therapy, are customized to meet each child’s unique needs and challenges.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy supports children with CP in improving how they move and use their bodies. It helps to:

  • Improve mobility and movement patterns

  • Increase muscle strength and flexibility

  • Enhance posture and alignment

  • Reduce pain and prevent deformities

  • Promote balance and coordination

Consistent physical therapy leads to improved independence, increased comfort, and long-term prevention of complications.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy helps children gain the skills they need for everyday tasks. It focuses on:

  • Promoting independence in daily activities (dressing, feeding, brushing teeth)

  • Improving fine motor and hand dexterity skills

  • Increasing upper body and core strength

  • Enhancing bilateral coordination (e.g., using both hands together)

  • Strengthening visual motor skills (e.g., handwriting, copying shapes)

These skills are essential for confidence, classroom participation, and daily success.

Speech & Feeding Therapy

Speech and feeding therapy are vital for children with CP who may struggle with communication or oral motor function. Therapy focuses on:

  • Strengthening oral muscles for speech and feeding

  • Improving articulation and sound production

  • Enhancing language skills and communication through verbal speech, signs, or AAC devices

  • Addressing chewing and swallowing difficulties to ensure safety and proper nutrition

With the right support, children can build critical communication and feeding skills that promote independence, safety, and social connection.

Specialized Tools & Techniques at Beelieve

In addition to traditional therapy, we offer advanced tools and innovative techniques to help children progress, including:

  • DMI (Dynamic Movement Intervention)- Encourages brain-body connections through targeted movement to support motor development.

  • Therasuit- A dynamic orthotic suit that supports body alignment, joint stability, and functional movement.

  • NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation)- Delivers electrical signals to help muscles contract and strengthen in children who have difficulty activating certain muscle groups.

  • SpiderCage- Provides resistance and support to improve strength, coordination, and posture in a fun and functional way.

  • Theratogs- A wearable system that provides constant sensory input and support to improve posture, core strength, and functional movement.

  • Astronaut Training- A sensory integration program that uses movement and sound to improve body awareness, balance, and visual attention.

  • GripAble- An interactive, game-based device that improves grip strength, wrist movement, and upper limb coordination in a motivating and fun way.

  • Orthotics- We partner with Grace Rehab Inc. and Hanger Clinic to provide custom orthotic devices for children who need extra support with posture, walking, or joint alignment.

Intensive Therapy Programs

Beelieve offers an Intensive Therapy Model designed to accelerate progress in a shorter timeframe. This model includes:

  • 3 hours of therapy per day

  • 5 days a week

  • For 3 consecutive weeks

Each child receives a personalized plan that typically includes:

  • 1 to 1.5 hours of Physical and Occupational Therapy

  • 30 minutes of Speech Therapy

This high-frequency, goal-driven approach helps children achieve milestones more quickly and confidently.

Working as a Team

We believe in the power of collaboration. Our therapists work closely with other healthcare professionals, including:

  • Neurologists

  • Orthopedic surgeons

  • Orthotists

Together, we ensure every child receives the well-rounded care they need to grow, thrive, and succeed.
